An earthquake has occurred in a remote part of New Zealand causing a local hospital to collapse. Rescuers have made contact with a patient trapped inside the building, but earthmoving equipment will be needed to get them out. Due to earthquake damage in the area it will take more than 24 hours for this equipment to reach the village. The patient is not severely injured, but they suffer from severe hypoglycaemia, and risk serious health complications if their blood sugar levels drop too low. There is an intact air vent leading to the patient and we hope to deliver much needed sugar to the patient through it. The walls of the air vent are not structurally sound.
We decided that the best way to deliver the jelly beans to the patient was with a rover. The base of the rover is made out of plywood with a length of 115mm and a width of 70mm. The rover is controlled by computer via Bluetooth and once in the air duct can drive autonomously using three ultrasonic sensors to avoid hitting the walls. All specialized parts are 3D Printed in ABS+ plastic or Laser cut from acrylic.
We are using an Arduino Uno to control all the driving and maze solving.

The rover uses lego wheels and has custom 3D Printed connectors to attach them to the motors.
The ultrasonic sensors also have specially made mounts of laser cut acrylic.
